2024/2025 Season

On Tuesday 18th March, a fiesty and full blooded tie between Saxton Rovers and Abingdon Utd Devs in front of a healthy 150+ spectators, saw the proverbial game of two halves. Rovers ran the game for 40 minutes, scoring just the one goal, but conceded a penalty on the stroke of half time to give United a lifeline.: After the break and Abingdon dominated the game scoring four further goals for a 5-1 victory.

The following evening it was a similar story, but the game lacked the atmosphere of the previous night. Supermarine raced into a 3-0 lead, however conceded a soft goal from a free kick with the last kick of the first half, to give Letcombe hope. The second half was mostly Letcombe in the ascendancy and they managed to grab a further two goals to draw level. Had it not been for the Marine goalkeeper, Letcombe could have been out of sight, however the tie went to penalty kicks. With 100+ supporters waiting in anticipation, both sides scored their opening five spot-kicks, only for Letcombe to have they sixth saved brilliantly, leaving Supermarine to score their’s and progress to the the final in May.

SWINDON SUPERMARINE CROWNED 24/25 CHAMPIONS

After 74 years of being a competition, we held our first ever final under lights at Tucker Park on Thursday 1st May 2025, as we welcomed Abingdon United Development and Swindon Supermarine Development to Tucker Park. Our hosts new lights, provided us with a 7.30pm KO to enable both sides to travel to the final unrushed and ready for a tight and compelling cup final.

The sides lined up to be introduced to the Chairman of Faringdon branch of The British Heart Foundation, Mr David Jones before observing the last post and a an excellently observed two minute silence in memory of those who have fallen whilst serving during war. With 150 spectators at Tucker Park, Abingdon stated brightly and missed a glorious opportunity within two minutes, failing to hit the target from 8 yards. United continued to have the better chances throughout the opening half, but failed to take their chances. Second period and Supermarine gather momentum and had their best chance on the hour when a great half volley looked goal bound but the United keeper stretched out a leg to save.

The 90 minutes closed with the game finishing 0-0 and we entered extra-time. The only real chance happened on 97 minutes as Swindon burst through the Abingdon backline from the halfway and as they entered the penalty area, their shot was blocked for a corner. The remaining moments were nail-biting but we headed to penalty kicks.

Abingdon missed their fourth penalty, however Supermarine then proceeded to miss their fifth to take us to sudden death. The spot kicks were being put away until United missed their ninth and Marine scored theirs to win the game and lift the trophy.

2022/2023 Season

The opening round of the competition saw the unfortunate withdrawal by Abingdon United Development, allowing Saxton Rovers an easy path through the round before a ball was kicked. 2021/2022 winners Clanfield (85) Fc were made to fight for their place in the second round with a hard fought 4-3 home win over Hatherop FC. Shrivenham FC Development created a shock victory, winning 5-1 Wroughton FC at the Weir Field, whilst Saxton Rovers managed to compete in the competition for the first time this season and overcame Wantage Town Development 2-1 to reach the semi-finals in April 2023.

The semi-final ties were disrupted with the withdrawal of Procision (Oxford ) due to them having insufficient players eligible to complete the competition, which enabled Shrivenham FC Development to progress to the Final. The remaining tie saw Letcombe FC and Saxton Rovers arrive at Tucker Park looking to reach another FTMCC cup final and it was Luke Stones, Letcombe FC who had the better quality to win 3-1.

Onto May 2023 and on an evening of rain showers it did not deter the healthy crowd of in excess of 100 supporters to Tucker Park. Both sides were presented to Cllr Mike Wise prior to kick off. Letcombe FC were always in control of the game and took the lead with ten minutes of the opening half remaining, when Ben Hummel scored. Into the second half and midway through, goals from Jordy Davies and Josh Fowler put the tie to bed, before a late flourish saw Matt Horsell pull a goal back for Shrivy before Fowler grabbed his second of the game and the man of the match award, as Letcombe FC lifted the trophy following a 4-1 victory.

2019/2020 Season

06-05-2021 – The 2019/2020 competition was finally completed this evening, with Letcombe FC and Wantage Town Development competing at Tucker Park, in front of a socially distanced crowd of approximately 100 visitors. Our hosts, Faringdon Town FC laid on an excellent playing surface which had received some heavy rain during the morning of the final and the clubhouse outside bar was in full swing, with it’s viewing area.

Wantage Town lifted the trophy with a deserved 2-0 victory, with both goals coming in the opening half. Jack Badger and Luke Faircloth scored the vital goals, with Badger collecting the Man of the Match award.

15-04-2021 – After a 15 month enforced Covid 19 pandemic break, the competition was able to restart the 2019/2020 ties with the semi finals taking place at our hosts Faringdon Town FC. The first tie saw Hellenic League side, Letcombe FC take on Swindon and District League The Globe of Swindon. In a committed and full bodied encounter, Letcombe secured a 2-1 victory, which in truth could have been won by a larger margin, but for some glaring misses, good goalkeeping and stout defending, which allowed The Globe to be in with a shout of taking the game to penalties.

The following evening and Tucker Park welcomed Cricklade Town of the Wiltshire Senior League and Wantage Town Development of the Hellenic League. This was a nip and tuck affair which was finally won by the young Wantage Town Development squad, when two goals in the final twenty minutes finally saw off their opponents. This now sets up and local derby final with neighbours Letcombe FC on Thursday May 6th 2021, to be kindly hosted by Faringdon Town FC – 6.30pm ko with Extra Time and Penalties if required.

29-06-2020 – Following the worldwide outbreak of Covid-19, the decision was made by the competitions committee, after guidance from The FA and the Government, the competition was placed on hold for the 2019-2020 season. There is also doubts whether the 2020-2021 competition will also take place.

15-08-2019 – The four 2nd Round ties saw plenty of goal action with 18 goals throughout the ties. This has seen Cricklade Town, Wantage Town Development, Letcombe FC & The Globe (Swindon) all reach the semi finals in April, with both ties to be played at Tucker Park.

08-08-2019 – All but one of the eight 1st Round ties were completed, with just Wheatsheaf (Stratton) FC being unable to raise a side for their away tie with The Globe (Swindon). Winners in Round 1 were, Hanborough FC, Wantage Town Development, Letcombe FC, Cricklade Town, Faringdon Town, Abingdon United Development and Highworth Town Reserves.

2016/2017 Season

Sadly Lechlade are yet another club to fold due to lack of support, (one wonders where FA’s the grass roots support line is drawn) but they bravely fielded a team to compete in the first semi final, only to be beaten on the night by Letcombe, who now move on to the final 4th May. In the other semi final Clanfield (85) FC beat Highworth 4 -1 on the night. So this years final was between Letcombe FC & Clanfield (85) FC, with goals from Chris Blakely & Harvey Savin late in the second half giving Clanfield (85) FC a 2-0 victory, lifting the trophy for the first time in 20 years. The full match report and images can be found HERE.

2015/2016 Season

This years final started with a minutes silence in memory of our Vice President Dick Custance who sadly passed away on the 29th April. Dick was also a Life Member of both the Berks & Bucks FA and North Berks Football League.

The game started with Abingdon Town coming out of the blocks and overwhelming Wroughton in the first 15 minutes with Abingdon’s number 8 Freddie Pinkerton scoring with a stunning shot on the turn after 10 minutes. The game slowly settled down with Wroughton finding their feet and matching Abingdon’s play. However 10 minutes into the second half Wroughton’s defense was left wide open as Abingdon’s number 11 Steve Pitson wandered through to score Abingdon’s second goal. It looked like game over, but Wroughton plugged away and on the 75th minute was awarded a penalty for handball. Dan Cole No.6 stepped up to slot the ball passed the goalkeeper. Now Wroughton did the pressing and in the 87th minute Wroughton’s Chris Balfe No.10 scored the equalising goal to take the game into extra time. With light fading neither team could score the winning goal, so the game went to penalties. Wroughton won the penalty shootout by 4 v 3 penalties. Steve Nesbit Wroughton’s Goalkeeper was the Maurice Gosling Man of the Match for a number of outstanding saves including the final kick of the penalty shootout. Mr. Tim Harries (Retiring Treasurer and Long Serving member of Faringdon Town FC) presented the awards and Cup after the match.

The Committee would like to welcome Tony Dean on to the Committee as the new Referee’s Secretary. Tony has kindly accepted to take over from Mr.R.Custance.

2014/2015 Season

In the second half Wroughton went 3 – 2 up through Ryan Keech and further goals from Glenn Armstrong (completing his hat trick) sealed the win. The man of the match was Steve Nesbitt of Wroughton who set up three of the goals.
